Maybe you installed Premiere Composer for the whooshes and clicks, then started dropping your own sound packs into its User Library. Today that plugin is called Animation Composer, and Mister Horse sells its full library as a subscription.
If animation presets and titles are why you use it, that subscription may be money well spent. If what you mostly used it for was sound, or you already own sound packs, here’s what Composer gives you today and a one-time alternative built only for sound.
The short answer
- Premiere Composer is now Animation Composer. Mister Horse renamed the Premiere plugin in June 2026; the After Effects plugin already had that name.
- The full library is a subscription: $19.90 a month, or $198 a year. Individual products are no longer sold. A free plan keeps the plugin, over 1,000 assets and a User Library of up to 500 items.
- If you mainly need your own sounds, Audio Composer is a Windows extension for Premiere Pro and After Effects that browses, searches and adds the sound effects and music you already own. It’s $19.99 once, with every update free, and it can import your Composer folders and favorites.
Premiere Composer is now Animation Composer
Mister Horse makes a version of its plugin for each app. Animation Composer has long been its After Effects plugin. The Premiere Pro version was called Premiere Composer until an update announced on June 10, 2026, which renamed it to Animation Composer, calling it the same plug-in with new features and one interface across both apps. The Premiere page now reads “Formerly Premiere Composer”.
So whichever name you search for, it’s one product. And it does a lot more than sound. Its Premiere and After Effects pages list titles and typography, transitions, text and animation presets, social media graphics, shapes, overlays and backgrounds, plus a set of basic sound effects (swooshes, slides, clicks, blasts) with adjustable pitch. In After Effects it adds keyframe tools such as Keyframe Wingman.
What the Mister Horse subscription costs, and what’s free
Mister Horse announced its move to subscription pricing in its help center in 2023. Its pricing page today lists three plans:
- Free plan: the Animation Composer plugin, over 1,000 assets and 4 tools. The User Library holds up to 500 items.
- Annual plan: $198 billed once a year ($16.50 a month), over 6,000 assets, unlimited User Library.
- Monthly plan: $19.90 a month, the same assets and an unlimited User Library.
The larger sound pack, Essential Sound Effects (1,000+ sounds in 30+ categories), is marked as part of the paid plan, and its Buy Now button leads to the pricing page. On aescripts, the old individual Mister Horse listings now say the product “has been discontinued” and point to a single subscription.
If you bought perpetual licenses before the change, the pricing page says they keep working even after a subscription expires, and you may get an upgrade discount on an annual plan. If you cancel, you keep the rights to videos you made with the plugins, and those animations keep working because they’re built from native Premiere and After Effects layers and effects.
Using your own sounds in Animation Composer
Composer does let you use your own files. Its User Library loads a folder from your disk and shows its contents inside the plugin: your own MOGRTs, images, H.264 video and audio files (WAV, MP3, MP4, M4A and AAC), ready to add to the timeline or the project.
That’s a real feature, and on the free plan it may be all you need. If your sound kit is a few hundred files, the 500-item free User Library could cover it. The limit matters once your library runs into the thousands, as most bought packs do. At that point the unlimited User Library is part of the paid plan, and you’re paying monthly or yearly mostly to browse files you already own.
When the subscription is worth it
Be honest about what you use. The subscription makes sense if you:
- Use the transitions, titles and animation presets every week.
- Want new packs as Mister Horse releases them.
- Work on a Mac, where Audio Composer doesn’t run yet.
It’s harder to justify if you open Composer mostly to find a whoosh or a music bed in your own folders. That’s the job Audio Composer was built for.
The faster way for sound: switch to Audio Composer
Audio Composer is a Windows extension for Premiere Pro and After Effects for the sound effects and music you already own. It doesn’t come with sounds and doesn’t do animation. It makes your library fast to search and use.
- Install it and open Window > UXP Plugins > Audio Composer in Premiere Pro, or Window > Extensions > Audio Composer in After Effects.
- If Animation Composer’s library is on your computer, the extension offers to import its folders and favorites. Add any other folders with Add folder….
- Type in the search box. One search covers every folder, small typos still match, and common sound words find their synonyms, so “whoosh” also finds “swoosh”.
- Click a sound to hear it, then drag it onto a track or click Add to place it at the playhead.
Your files never move. Folders, favorites, color labels and Collections only change how the extension shows your library, and changed sounds are saved as new files. The library section of the help page covers it all.
A few things it does that Composer’s sound side doesn’t list:
- Sorting and details: sounds are sorted into SFX, Music and VO, and music shows its tempo and key.
- Fit music to length: Fit to in/out in Premiere, or Fit to work area in After Effects, edits a track on bar lines to the exact length, keeping its real ending.
- Search by description: Deep Scan listens to your library on your own PC, so you can
find “metal door in a big room” even when the file is called
SFX_0231.wav. - AI: Ask AI finds and places sounds from a plain request, including with a free model that runs on your PC.
If your packs are a mess of folders, organizing your sound effects library helps whichever tool you browse it with.

FAQ
Is Premiere Composer the same as Animation Composer?
Yes. Premiere Composer was Mister Horse’s plugin for Premiere Pro, and Animation Composer was its After Effects plugin. On June 10, 2026, Mister Horse renamed Premiere Composer to Animation Composer, so both versions now share one name and one interface.
Is Animation Composer free?
The plugin is. The free plan includes over 1,000 assets, 4 tools and a User Library of up to 500 items. The full 6,000+ asset library, Essential Sound Effects and an unlimited User Library need the monthly or annual plan.
Can I still buy Mister Horse products once?
Not as new purchases. Mister Horse moved to a single subscription in 2023, and its individual product listings are discontinued. Perpetual licenses bought before that keep working, according to its pricing page.
What happens to my videos if I cancel the subscription?
Mister Horse says you keep the rights to content you made with the plugins, and the animations keep working, even with the plugins uninstalled, because they use native Premiere and After Effects layers and effects.
Can Audio Composer import my Composer library?
Yes. If it finds Animation Composer’s library settings, it offers to import its folders and favorites. Nothing is copied or moved, and you can add more folders any time. More on that in using your own sound library in Premiere Pro.
Does Audio Composer come with sounds?
No. It works with the sound effects and music you already own. You can try every feature free for 7 days; after that, the free version keeps the first 100 sounds of your library.
